Shaoshan is the birthplace of Chairman Mao. It is about 600 miles from Shanghai and 100km from Changsha. The house where he was born is a sunny, yellow mudbrick house, it has 13 rooms, a thatched roof. There is a Mao museum and a 30 feet statue. It is now a pilgrimage center for Chinese people.
